JOB PROFILE:
The successful candidate will be responsible for technical leadership of the mechanical engineering function at the Research Reactor including mentorship, implementation of the mechanical engineering discipline according to systems engineering principles, and execution of mechanical engineering projects. The successful candidate will be expected to have thorough knowledge and experience in the field of mechanical engineering and expected to have a good appreciation for the systems engineering discipline.


Key Performance Areas:
Key responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:
•    Develop and implement mechanical engineering design processes.
•    Train and mentor junior engineers in engineering processes.
•    Maintain and expand  mechanical design basis which will include elicitation of design requirements.
•    Create and manage design requirement specifications.
•    Drive and implement mechanically oriented projects.
•    Create mechanical engineering design solutions according to specifications and requirements (which may include the application of the ASME code).
•    Specify, conduct, plan, manage and control analysis required during a project.
•    Specify, plan and control mechanical engineering design drawings and draughting.
•    Contract expert consultants as and when required and manage the contractual relationship.
•    Conduct and witness acceptance and compliance tests.
•    Maintain key interfaces required to successfully address technical issues.
•    Ensure that customer requirements (performance, schedule and cost) are met.


PERSON REQUIREMENTS:
The qualifications required for the post are:
•    A degree in Mechanical Engineering - B.Eng (Mechanical).
•    An M.Eng or Ph.D in mechanical engineering will be an advantage.
•    Have at least 7 years applicable experience in mechanical engineering with a Ph.D degree or 10 years without a Ph.D degree.
•    Preferably have experience in a Nuclear environment.
•    Computer literate (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Project).
•    Effective verbal and written communication skills.
•    Good leadership, interpersonal and facilitation skills.
•    Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills.
•    Multi-disciplinary engineering understanding.
•    Project management skills.
•    Professional Engineering registration will be an advantage.
